Happy Leap Day!

I posted something on Facebook last night about how I wished I was having a baby today, and NO I’m not preggo!  I just think having a baby on a day that doesn’t come around every year would be unique and wonderful.  Leap Day is just one of those days that has to be taken advantage of… and not just by me…

Speaking of which… Ladies, how long have you been dating the guy you’re with now?  Has it been 3+ years?  Are you just sitting around waiting for them to propose?  Well, if so… today you’re in luck.  In Finland, Scotland and Ireland woman have been proposing to men on Leap Day for ages.  Of course if you’ve seen the movie Leap Day you would know this.  I’m not a huge Amy Adams fan, so I’m not sure if I’m going to run out to Blockbuster for that one!

Women in Finland are advised to propose only on Leap Day for good luck. If her boyfriend should refuse, he is required to pay her a “fine” which would be enough fabric to make a skirt.

In Scotland, an unmarried Queen Margaret allegedly enacted a law allowing women to propose on Leap Day. But there was a catch: The proposer had to wear a red petticoat (a skirt under her skirt) to warn her intended that she planned to pop the question.

Perhaps the most well-known of the leap-year marriage superstitions belongs to Ireland, where, again, women are advised to propose only on Leap Day for good luck.

Legend has it that St. Brigid of Kildare, a fifth-century Irish nun, asked St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, to grant permission for women to propose after hearing complaints from single women whose suitors were too shy to propose. Initially, he granted women permission to propose  once every seven years, but at Brigid’s insistence, he agreed for the proposals to happen every Leap Day. The folk tale suggests that Brigid then dropped to a knee and proposed to Patrick that instant, but he refused, kissing her on the cheek and offering a silk gown to soften the blow. The Irish tradition therefore dictates that any man refusing a woman’s leap-day proposal must give her a silk gown.

So women… don’t be afraid!  Either you’re getting a fiance or a fabulous new item for your wardrobe!  Head out there, claim your love… and celebrate Leap Day in style!

Rants and Raves: Traffic and Pinterest

I called up Steph and told her that we needed to have another craft day… all of the waiting projects on my Pinterest board were just staring at me… beckoning me… and I need to get going on some of them before wedding season takes over my life!  When I started talking to Ryan about the aforementioned project list he just groaned.  BUT, at least I’ve been talking about it enough that he knows what Pinterest is now!  HAHA!  So, we have yet to set up a craft day, but it will probably be on a Saturday and I’m seriously considering making it an open invitation to anyone else that wants to craft along with us.  BYOGG (Bring Your Own Glue Gun).

This week’s Rants go to…
*Pinterest… for stealing my time, and getting me on a first name basis at AC Moore.
*Cabarrus County traffic/construction… seriously, how long is this going to take?
*Jamba Juice… Why do you have to be so far away? I see a road trip in my future… to Kannapolis.  In Cabarrus Co. Okay, maybe not.

This week’s Raves go to…
*Katrina Hutchins.  My new favorite wedding planner.  Check out her work, and her blog (did I mention she featured me this week?)… you’ll fall in love with her just like I did!
*Honest conversations.  Shakespeare once said, “No legacy is so rich as honesty.”  To my friends: Thank you for allowing me to be honest, and being honest in return. Love you.
*Pinterest… for helping me have a hobby outside photography, for inspiration and getting my butt back in shape.
