Families: Baby Piper

It was 9:30pm and I was just leaving The Knot market mixer when I got the call… “Rachel, I’m in labor.”  She said they weren’t headed to the hospital quite yet, but she wanted to give me a heads up.  The good news?  I was already uptown… the bad news… I had enjoyed 2 cocktails, was all dressed up and didn’t have my camera. Whomp, whomp, whomp.  So back home I went, threw on my comfiest sweatpants and waited… at 2am she called, “Rachel, things progressed really quickly and I’m going to start pushing.  How quickly can you get here?”  Obviously she had the epidural… because no woman in the state of natural child birth would be able to call me right then and talk to me so calmly.

At 2:30am Dawn and Barry welcomed little baby Piper into the world… 8lbs 3oz, 20in long… and gorgeous.  Don’t believe me?  Just look for yourself.

Dawn & Barry… Thank you for letting me be a part of this very special and intimate time in your baby girls first initial moments in the world, and the first time your family of three grew to a family of four. Love you guys so much! Congrats! (And Wyatt?  I know you’re going to be such a great big brother)

Seniors: McKenzie

I completely believe McKenzie was born in the wrong era.  She’s a lover of all things vintage, and collects old vinyls for fun (the ones pictured are all hers!).  Her mom says that she has basically taken over the old record player in the living room.  When I got McKenzie’s questionnaire back, I immediately knew where we needed to photograph her Seniors.  We had the best time laughing and enjoying this session, it was the perfect mix of modern and vintage.  I’m excited to see where this girl goes in life… so grounded and amazingly intelligent, I know she’s going to succeed.  XOXO!

Jacob & Lindsey Get [Engaged]

I’ve known Lindsey FOR-EV-ER… I’m not even joking, forever.  My mom used to be her piano teacher when she was like… 10… The practices and recitals, seeing her older twin brothers move to California… seriously, forever.  When she started having an interest in photography I definitely wanted her to get started on the right foot, so she took my private classes and now she’s shot her first wedding and many, many portrait sessions.

Now, she’s engaged, and I couldn’t be happier for her and Jacob.  Being a photographer, she definitely walked into the session with a clear vision and idea of what she wanted.  We had THE BEST time with the PERFECT light.  And while parts of me may always see her as that long haired 10 year old sitting at the piano, I honestly can’t wait to see her in a white dress walking down the aisle in a few months marrying the man of her dreams.
